Kundapur, Mar 5: A youth who allegedly tried to kidnap a child was caught by the public and beaten up. The incident took place near Shree Kantheshwara Temple at Gopady here on Sunday March 5 evening.

A boy, aged around 6 years, was playing with a bicycle near the temple on Sunday evening.

While the child was playing, the youth came to the spot and tried to forcibly pull the boy off the bicycle, it is alleged.

The boy reportedly told the youth that there was CCTV camera installed in his house which was nearby. At this, the youth at once snatched the boy and ran away. The boy then started screaming for help.

The local auto driver who saw the boy being taken away at once raised an alarm and got other people together. They then chased the youth, caught him and thrashed him.

The youth's identity is not known, but he is said to be a native of north Karnataka and residing in Kumbhashi. He is working as a labourer in the construction of a temple near Kumbhashi, sources said.

The parents of the boy refused to file a police complaint, it is learnt.

    Uncle Joe,
    You are absolutely right...
Not only in this case also otherwise in any other case, people cannot take the law into their hands.
Since, parents of the boy refused to file a police complaint, we do not know the exact reason behind this case.
Only thorough investigation would have revealed the truth behind of an allegation to kidnap the child.

I do not subscribe to the view that people can and should law into their hands. However here there is an instance where the person concerned received what he deserved. Instances of kidnap and rape are on the increase and any amount of vigilance on the part of the public is not adequate enough

Have some faith on our Police Dept too.... first thing everyone should do that...go and register your formal case.... This thing is working perfectly in Gulf region....the moment you make Police complaint....even Locals too run behind the person who lodged the complaint by requesting him to withdraw the case with amicable settlement in case of civil cases.... If it is criminal cases....even Locals are in big trouble too

A criminal in the making gets leash of life to recupperate and zero in on his next victim. The cops should take suo moto cognizance and file an FIR.

Why the boy's parents refused to file a police complaint? Police should have filed a suo motto case and interrogated the culprit thoroughly to find out the motive behind this kidnap. They must also find out if he has kidnapped any other child before. If let free tomorrow he may attempt to kidnap another child. This is a serious matter.
