Bengaluru : Setback to Siddu govt - SM Krishna to join BJP on Mar 17

Bengaluru, Mar 7 (Agencies) : In what is being seen as a huge body blow to the Siddaramaiah government, which faces fresh elections in just over a year, Karnataka’s iconic former Congressman S. M. Krishna, who severed ties with the Congress on January 29, will finally shut the doors on his parent party and in the presence of BJP bigwigs, become a full-fledged card carrying member of the BJP on March 17 or 18.

At a closed door meeting that lasted for nearly 40 minutes at Krishna's home in upscale Sadashivanagar, where he was closeted with a beaming state BJP chief B.S. Yeddyurappa and former deputy CM R. Ashok, the BJP top duo formally invited the senior leader to join the BJP.

Sources close to the meeting said that Krishna, flanked by his wife Prema, and close aides, reportedly accepted the BJP's invitation to join the party in the presence of BJP national president Amit Shah in Delhi. After the meeting with the former Union minister, Ashok said that it was "a big day for BJP" and that "the meeting was a big success". Sources said that the embittered veteran former Congressman, upset over being sidelined and ignored, has vowed he will work with the BJP to win all 28 seats in Bengaluru city, while also agreeing to throw his weight behind saffron candidates in the two upcoming bypolls in Nanjangudu and Gundlepet, and win his own hunting ground the Old Mysore region for the BJP, which has no presence there.

In the days to come, Krishna will head out to Nanjangud constituency and campaign for BJP candidate, former minister Srinivasa Prasad, sources said, adding it would be a big morale booster to the party, " as the party has very weak organizational base in old Mysuru region and we were looking for a potential leader to strengthen the party."

The face of Krishna, a Vokkaliga will help the party to open its account in Mandya and peripheral Bengaluru, the source said, adding that educated voters in Bengaluru still recall the developmental works undertaken by Krishna when he headed Congress government in 2002 that took the city into the 21st century. "He will help the BJP in the coming Assembly elections," the source said. BJP has decided to make Krishna's joining of the BJP, a huge national event to embarrass the Congress, with insiders saying Krishna has also waited for an opportunity to give a "fitting reply" to the party for ignoring his presence in recent past.

Krishna who won the hearts of Bengaluru for providing once world class infrastructures facilities and better roads to the city, advised the BJP top leaders that the party must win all 28 seats in 2018 Assembly elections. He also said that BJP has dedicated cadres, and by using their services they could win all 28 seats, sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party said.

Yeddyurappa also praised Krishna during his stint as the Chief Minister in state. He recalled developmental works in Bengaluru city during Krishna's period.

Krishna was deeply critical of the Congress, saying it had hit rock-bottom and had completely lost the confidence of the voters. Due to lack of vision of Congress leaders, party was disconnected from all sections of society.

He also said that he will definitely show his strength to the Congress in coming days, sources in state BJP said.

Krishna reportedly heaped praise on the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that demonetisation and surgical strike against terror launching pad in Pak occupied Kashmir, were bold decisions by the Prime Minister, sources said.

All that he achieved in his life was because of the Congress party. Today he has lost it all, Goodwill and self respect. What is the value of a man who has lost respect and dignity. L K Advani too could have left the BJP, but has he, because he has better morals. The true face of S M Krishna stands exposed today. What position will he expect to get in the BJP. He will just be an used tissue there. Probably the greatest political tragedy. They will use him like a piece of decoration before a party and throw it away once the party is over.

Many politicians sometime are in BJP and sometime in congress. When they come to know that they do not get ticket they change their party and the other party welcomes them without any problems though they have abused them and also give them the ticket. Now slowly people of India are coming to know that there is no difference between congress and BJP. Their main intention is to accumulate wealth in the name of development by looting natural resources, to gain popularity by creating communal riots in the name of religion and by showing sympathy to particular religion etc. The days are not too far for these people to go to jail once the AAP comes to power in India.

At the age of 84 (wish him many more years of life), its difficult for we common people for agreeing on terms on what has made an veteran leader who spoke on inclusive politics and to unite the people to join a party who are relentlessly working on divisive politics of getting rid of minority community from India because they are unable to prove nationalism and patriotism.

Either way, in comparison to BJP's tenure from 2006-2008 and 2009-2013, Siddu led INC is 101 times better, they have fulfilled most of their election manifesto moreover they are efficient and cleaner than BJP.

Mr. S M Krishna is at his old age but still commands lot of respect and goodwill both at his community level, Mandya region and certain urban sections of Karnataka. We are yet to see the impact he would make in terms of poltical mileage.

One thing is very clear, congress party which is a very old party and was a massive political force is loosing its foothold in most parts of the country. The way things are going it looks like congress might loose power in Karnataka also which is the only big state which congress is in power. Lack of leadership and vision in Mr. Rahul Gandhi and the high command is one of the main reason for this downfall. It does not look like the people at the helm of affairs of the congress have realised this mistake.

At 84, they still have energy to do active politics. Amazing. BJP guys used to make fun of his absence of mind in various incidents. Now they want his services. All gimmicks of politics. But Krishna is clean in comparison to other Congress leaders. It will surely help BJP.

Krishna enjoyed all posts in Congress like CM, Minister of External affairs, Governor and finally ditched Congress. At the age of 84 he should retire from politics and give way to youngsters. Yeddy never praised Krishna when he was CM for his development works and now when Krishna joined BPJ, Yeddy is praising for his works.
