Mangaluru, Mar 8: Two brothers, who reportedly belong to Koppalakadu in the city, committed suicide at a lodge at Hassan, duly leaving behind a suicide note. It is said that they decided to end their lives because of huge loss they suffered in chit fund business.

The names of the victims have been given as Purushotham Poojary (45) and Lokanath Poojary (43). They had hired a room in a lodge near Vakkaligas Hostel in the city on Bengaluru-Mangaluru Road on March 3. The brothers did not step out of their room for two days. Therefore, the staff of the lodge knocked at their room door on Tuesday March 7 morning but the brothers did neither respond nor opened the door.

Thereafter the lodge management contacted the police. In the presence of police personnel, the room door was broken open. It was found that the brothers had hanged themselves from the ceiling fan. The brothers had apparently consumed poison before hanging themselves. It is thought that they would have ended their lives at least a couple of days back, as the bodies had begun to decompose.

Cases of cheating had been registered in Kadri police station in the city by several people against these two brothers about fraudulent chit fund transactions and swindling of money invested by people. Both of them had stayed away from city since some days for the fear of police action, it is said. Police personnel of K R Puram extension station at Hassan have registered a case and investigation has been launched.
