Mangaluru: SAC, DK Police create awareness on addiction, road safety

Mangaluru, March 14: With the broader theme of 'life being more precious than any form of addiction' and the 'need to be alert on roads to save life', the post-graduate students of social work at St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru and  Dakshina Kannada District Police held an awareness programme on addiction from mobile to drugs and on road safety measures at Carmel College, Modankap.

The programme was initiated by Amanullah A, police inspector, DCIB, DK and Shwetha Rasquinha, asst professor of PG department of Social Work, St Aloysius College, (Autonomous), Mangaluru. The programme was inaugurated by Amanullah A, police inspector, DCIB, DK  by releasing the balloons into the sky.


 

 

 

 

 

The MSW students used mime shows and street plays along with speeches to reach the audience in an effective manner. The mime show focused on selfie addiction, substance abuse and overuse of mobiles, among other concerns.

The street play on road safety drove home the message of 'over speeding', 'overload', 'helmet being mandatory for pillion riders' and 'drunken driving' among others.

DYSP of Bantwal Sub Division, Ravish, in his message to the students, stressed the value of life and the ways to protect the life from the harmful impacts of addiction and road accidents. Nagesh, probationary IPS  said that the police department is always ready to protect the youngsters from being victims of addiction.

Chandrashekaraiah, PSI, traffic Bantwal, Nanda Kumar, PSI Bantwal Town and a number of drivers, public, police personnel and students were present for the programme.
