Media Release
Mangaluru, Mar 15: After the success of National Level Seminar and Media Fest – BEACONS 2K17, Nitte Institute of Communication, constituent college of Nitte University welcomed the popular actor-director of the Sandalwood Industry, Rakshit Shetty on Tuesday March 14, at their Paneer campus in Deralakatte.
The actor spoke about his aspiration for Coastalwood and film industry as a whole besides his journey in the field.
Role Model
When asked about his role model, Rakshit openly admitted to be inspired by the works of Late Shankar Nag, a well known actor, producer and director of various Kannada Films. "I am very much inspired by Shankar Nag sir. He is a star we lost very early but his achievements still dont fail to mesmerize us. I want to accomplish at least half of what he has done" he confessed.
Language and Cinema
Expressing his views on popularizing the Tulu film industry, Rakshit Shetty opined that films do not require a language to be popular.
“Apocalypto, a film based on Mayan period achieved great success for the portrayal of the events that took place during Mayan era and not because of the language. Although, I would like to work in the same field and make Tulu movies notable world wide, considering Tulu being my mother tongue,” expressed the actor.
Speaking about Kannada Film Industry, "Sandalwood has been catering to a single crowd for a long time. Now it’s high time for the parallel cinema to step in and make a difference" he opined.
Answering to the questions about distribution of his recent flick, Kirik Party, Rakshit Shetty said that the people should come out of the traditional way of viewing films and accept modern screening of movies.
"We are in need of a lot of multiplexes. It is very difficult for families to watch movies in theatres with hard seats and fans hung several feet over their head. It is crucial to spring up middle class multiplexes in various parts of the state" he suggested. Addressing the similar issue, the actor announced that his renowned production house- Paramvah is making an effort to bring up those new middle class theatres.
Direction by director
"Never get influenced by someone. I watched a lot of movies over and over again to correct and understand the flaws. Because at the end of the day, only my original work makes me stand out in the crowd," said the actor on the craft of filmmaking.
He directed students to watch a lot of movies by great directors and advised students to start making a lot of short films, as that is where one gets to know their flaws and has the scope to improve towards better films.
"I am a director who wants to be a good actor and play different characters. There should always be a purpose that will inspire you to move ahead in this field. Direction helps me to be a better actor" he concluded.
On occasion, NICO students presented a special video made exclusively for the star. Fans from across the city grabbed the opportunity to click ‘selfies' with the star, and offered a special portrait made for him.
Head of the Department Prof Raviraj Kini and other faculty members were present on occasion.
