M’lore: 'Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo' at St Agnes Special School Grounds on Mar 9

Mangalore, Mar 7: Lenten devotion is at its peak in the city. It was only a week ago that Cordel church played host to the historical venture 'Dha Upades' play. Almost 10,000 drama buffs of the city were witnesses to this bold venture in Konkani.
Konkani buffs are in for another treat. St Agnes Special School grounds will play host to another Biblical Konkani play. Come Sunday March 9 evening and sea of devotees and Konkani lovers will converge at the ground to watch another Lenten venture 'Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo', a Konkani Biblical play written and directed by noted Konkani dramatist Arunraj Rodrigues.
The revolutionary play which depicts the role of brave women who were the witnesses to Jesus' teachings, his mission on earth, his excruciating sufferings which led to his Crucifixion and his triumphant resurrection is a unique venture in Konkani. The play is being organized by St Ann's Church, Kelrai which had also staged 'Someachim Nimanni Bara Voram', a Biblical play depicting the last painful hours of Jesus during the Lenten season in the year 2007.
Sangeet Guru Joel Pereira has scored background music to 'Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo' while Rony Crasta Kelrai has penned lyrics and Eric Ozario composed the music. This play had been staged twice earlier in Mandd Sobhann.
The parishioners of economically-backward St Ann’s parish, Kelari have organized the play on the occasion of World Women's Day which will be observed on Saturday March 8. The total cost of the play is estimated at Rs 2 lac. However, the entry is open to all and there is no entry fee for the play. The play is also a tribute to womenfolk who are the driving force of the family in particular and world at large.
