Panaji, Mar 7: Even as the state police machinery conducted second autopsy on the body of British teenager Scarlette Eden Keeling, the main opposition today said `state is increasingly becoming unsafe for tourists.'
Scarlette, 15, died under mysterious circumstances at the popular Anjuna beach on February 18 and her family members had suspected foul play pointing out to the bruises appearing on her body.
After initial reluctance and chief minister Digamber Kamat's intervention, state police department had asked for the second autopsy report to investigate into the allegations of murder and rape on the teenager.
The doctors at Goa medical college and hospital (GMCH) stated that the autopsy report would be out by late night on Friday March 7 or on Saturday March 8.
While second autopsy was conducted in the state government-run Goa medical college and hospital, the main opposition political party said that state is becoming unsafe for the tourists.
"Police seems to be busy defending their own officer rather than investigating into the case," leader of opposition and BJP leader Manohar Parrikar told at a news conference on Friday.
He pointed out that sub-inspector Nerlon Albuquerque who initially investigated the case was suspended in 2004 in another case for covering up a murder by showing it as a natural death. "Director general of police should have probed into the past record of this officer who initially investigated the case," Parrikar said.
The leader of opposition, who is also former chief minister of the state, said that the police are involved in extortion and home ministry is giving deaf ears to the complaints of the people.
Parrikar said that home minister Ravi Naiik, who is silent on the entire issue, should be suspended.
Police, meanwhile, said that they are still waiting for the second autopsy report is available. "We are waiting for the report. We will be able to comment only after that is available," North Goa superintendent of police Bosco George stated.
