Panaji, Mar 9: The findings of second autopsy recommending the state police to investigate the death of 15year old British girl as murder has confirmed the family's suspicion that she was raped and murdered.
The second autopsy conducted on the body today by three member panel of doctors today recommended that the police should investigate this case as a homicide. "It was unanimous decision of the panel," North goa superintendent of police Bosco George stated last night.
Scarlette Eden Keeling, 15, a British national was found suspiciously dead at goa;s popular anjuna beach on February 18. Following the first autopsy, which showed bruises on SCarlette's body, the family members had suspected foul play in her death.
Her mother, Fiona Mackowen, had vowed to fight for justice to her daughter and lobbied with the state chief minister Digamber Kamat forcing the police to conduct second autopsy.
The autopsy, which went for almost six hours today, culminated in the evening with the state police insisting that irrespective of autopsy findings, they would investigate the case as possible murder.
Even as the second autopsy was being conducted in the goa government run goa medical college and hospital, the Scarlette's family members had tensed moments. Police maintained silence on the issue awaiting the second autopsy.
The family members heaved a sigh of relief when second autopsy forced the police to investigate the case as murder.
"We have been saying it till day one. I am pleased now. In my heart I knew that she was murdered," Scarlette's mother Fiona stated.
She said that they will fly Scarlette's body to UK within next few days.
Winning the first battle, the family members today lodged a formal complaint against Anjuna police sub inspector Nerlon Albuquerque for misguiding them. "The duty officer and the incharge of police station Anjuna had lied to me about the facts and circumstances of her death," she said in the complaint.
"They have lied to me as well as the media about her body having no bruise marks. They have fabricated the panchanama and misinformed the pathologist about the circumstances of the body and the possible cause of her death," Fiona said.
The mother, however, said that she still have faith in Goa police. "There are still good officer in the force," she said.
