Mangalore, Mar 11: Culture (samskriti) is constructive in nature. It is close to life and does not hide behind anything. It does not stand for blind beliefs; instead it is the bridge between idea and science (Vichara and Vijnana), said well-known film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar here on Monday March 10.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the ‘Samskrithi Sinchana 2008 organised at the Town hall organized by Alva’s Education trust in association with Justice K S Hegde Charitable foundation. In his speech he opined that culture is basically constructive in nature, and anything which is destructive cannot be termed as culture. In fact according to him any culture which does not accept new ideas brought in by science slowly degenerates.
Further, he said that owing to growing trend of superiority complex among some people, society is facing a major threat to its own culture. In present times culture is wrongly used by some people. In order to nurture one's own culture, many have fought against other cultures, he lamented.
It is very important to know that culture is not confined to evaluations done in the school or rituals offered at temples; rather it is much more than that. Moreover one should know that culture cannot be confined, as it is more elaborate than open thinking, he added.
On the occasion, Alva’s Education trust president Dr M Mohan Alva, Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Maheshwar Rao and Nitte education trust chairman N Vinay Hegde were present. ‘Samskrithi Sinchana Award 2008 was conferred on flutist Praveen Godkindi and violinist Dr Mysore Manjunath.
After the function there was a superlative presentation by Praveen Godkindi and Mysore Manjunath which left the audience completely fascinated, with their performance. Godkindi, Dr Manjunath, Rajendra Nakod (tabla) and Jayachandra Rao (mridangam) are some of the best performers of the country. At the same time, jugalbandi between the two was excellent, in fact every ‘harkat’ between them brought with it a huge round of applause from the appreciative lovers of music here.
