Bengaluru, Mar 27: A joint house panel of both houses of Karnataka legislature has recommended that women should not be hired for working in night shifts in Information Technology and Bio-Technology Companies in the State in order to ensure the safety of women employees.

The 21 members of the committee visited two major home-grown companies - Infosys and Biocon - and inspected working condition of women employees on November 9, 2016.
“In view of the safety of women employees”, the committee said companies have to make efforts to deploy women employees, at the maximum extent, for morning or afternoon shifts.

The committee headed by Congress MLA N A Harris, which was tabled in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has recommended hiring of men employees for night shifts.

The panel also looked into the spending of money under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) scheme by companies.

It recommended to the government to frame guidelines for effective utilisation of two per cent of profits for undertaking good social works under the CSR. Now, the government has not been monitoring utilization of funds under the CSR, it said.

I humbly say "disagree" for no hiring of women for Night in IT/BT sectors. Insted I suggest that make security tighten as has been done UP in recent days and make use technology such as wifi so that in case of emergency women can contact and take help from police.I feel Ban is no solution to the problem

    savita,

Even men are attacked, robbed or killed during the night time. So why no rules to protect them?

My comment is specifically for the people who demand equality of both sexes.

All the above things aside, this is a law and order issue. our police are incapable of providing safety to the people.

Ban all the Paying Guest accommodations and check for the hygienic conditions they maintain in their buildings. They serve inferior quality food and the authorities are keeping their mum on all these.

This rule does not make any sense for me.. On one side we are fighting for quality and on the other side we bring such rules. Well, currently most of the companies take exemption to this order by taking FORM-S from department which allows employing women at night with few guidelines like providing Transport and escort Services, etc and i hope that exemption will continue.

Women are getting into armed forces even for combat duties and these backward thinking people do this. Let women chose what they want to do. Not doing night shift may reduce their career opportunities.
