Fr Lawrence DSouza Appointed as the Director of St Johns Medical College Bangalore

Mangalore Mar 17: Kulshekar Parish Priest Fr Lawrence DSouza has been appointed as the Director of St John's Medical College, Bangalore, by the Catholic Bishops Conference of India.

A senior priest in the Mangalore diocese, Fr D'Souza served as the Administrator of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions between 1998 and 2006 during which Fr Muller Medical College was established.

He had also served as the Assistant Director of Fr Muller Hospital between 1979 and 1984 besides serving as the Secretary of Catholic Board of Education between 1979 and 1992.

He pursued his PhD from Fordham University in the US on "Administration and supervision in church related institutions" between 1992-1998. Born in 1940 at Pernal near Shirva in Udupi district, he did his early schooling in St Mary's School in Shirva. Fr D'Souza was ordained in 1977.

Fr D'Souza will be director-designate between April 1 and August 31 and take charge as Director of St John's Medical College on September 1, 2008.

    What can be more exiting to read after ages on the same page that the same old boys who once studies with me in the same old class as simple class mates at SAC are making big news today. One is not only a PhD but also a Director of the esteemed SJMC. The other a Bishop of Bellari. Sounds incredibly cool and I only wish I had a clue!! All have wished you success.     If I am not mistaken, soon after his ordination, Fr. D'Souza was posted as an Asst. Priest in Kulshekhar where is he right now Parish Priest. I had the privilege of being his Catechism student when I was studying in Sacred Hearts - Kushekhar. Can never forget this charming priest who accompanied us as our guardian when we went on a school trip. Heartiest congratulations father !
