Mangalore, Mar 28: B Madhav, CPI (M) Dakshina Kannada district secretary, appealed the labourers working in unorganized sector to come together and stage protes in unison, in order to realize the dream of minimum wages.
Thought the state government set the average minimum wage of Rs 70 per day, it is not being paid all over the state. The minimum wages of labourers engaged in unorganized sector are not hiked depending on increase in the price index of essential communities. The existing wages are not at all sufficient to manage the family expenses. Minimum wage should be devised taking into consideration the increase in prices and minimum needs of labourers. If the minimum wages are set for 2 crore labourers across the state, it would account for growth in production, trade and commerce which would set the change for development, he added.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, CPI (M) city secretary, said that majority of Muslims who account for 13.4 per cent of national population, are socially and economically backward in the country.
Vimala, CPI (M) Bappal branch secretary, welcomed. Bharati, Bolar branch secretary proposed vote of thanks.
