Dubai: USWAS Celebrates 5th Anniversary in Grand Style

Dubai, Mar 29: USWAS, an association of Shirva parishioners spread across the UAE celebrated their 5th anniversary at the Grand Hotel premises here on March 28, 2008.
The day long program, as promised turned out to be full of fun and entertainment. Talented artistes of Shirva not only from Dubai, but also from Doha were also present to perform on the show.
Raj Gopal, noted guitarist from Mangalore who has lend his musical hand for major 'Sandalwood' shows in Karnataka, was a special invitee artiste flown specially all the way from Mangalore to participate in the event.
The program began at 11.45 am with song 'Yo Tum Moga' followed by the inaugural and welcome ceremony for the guests. A welcome speech was presented by Canute Mathais, after which previous years reports were presented by Canute D'Souza.
A cake was cut by all five (current and previous) presidents of USWAS. Leena Mathais, former zilla panchayat vice president of DK and a noted politician from Shirva was the guest of honour.
Joesph Mathis and Alphonse D'souza were among the main guests. The main attraction of the program was a show called "Kon Zatholo Konkani Lakhpati".
In between the programs there were spot prizes and 'Baila' dance and couple dance. Local artists entertained the audience with songs. Kokani short play – 'Tuppe Kodpache Tundu Raay' was staged. At the end of the program there was a raffle draw.
Songs were also sung by Asha Maben, Diany D'Souza, Jossy, Tina Sequiera, Canute Mathias and others. The vote of thanks was proposed by Manoj Menzes and the entire program was compered with good spirit by talented young compere Uttam Menezes.
The event finally concluded with a grand 'Kudla Masala' by Canute and group.
