Washington, May 24 (IANS): Former President Barack Obama, Democrat Hillary Clinton and her husband and former President Bill Clinton have expressed their support for the victims of the terror attack in Manchester, northern England, that left 22 persons dead.

"Our hearts go out to those killed and wounded in Manchester. Americans will always stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of the UK," Obama tweeted on Tuesday.

Police named 22-year-old Salman Abedi as the suspected bomber behind the attack at Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert that also injured 59 others on Monday night.

The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the second assault in Manchester in the last 20 years.

Former Secretary of State and 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said she was angered by the attack that claimed the lives of several children.

"Outraged and angry about this cowardly terror attack on a crowd of young people. Sending sympathy and strength to victims and people of Manchester," Hillary Clinton said.

Bill Clinton tweeted: "Senseless and vicious acts of terror will never drive us apart and will always be met with strength. Praying for the victims in Manchester."
