Mangalore, Aug 16: The Institute of Occupational Therapy, Srinivas University, organised an organ donation awareness programme at the City Campus, Pandeshwar Gallery Hall. The event was aimed at creating awareness on the importance of organ donation and encouraging the community to come forward for this noble cause.
Delivering the keynote address, chief transplant coordinator, Jeevasarthakathe /SOTTO Karnataka, Noushad Pasha, emphasised the crucial role of public participation in saving lives through organ donation. He explained the procedures involved and highlighted how every pledge contributes to a second chance at life for patients in need.





Vice chancellor, Srinivas University, Dr K Satyanarayan Reddy, underlined the urgent need for organ donation, stating that in Tamil Nadu, 1.84% per million population donation takes place, and Karnataka too should strive to achieve such benchmarks.
Medical superintendent, Srinivas Hospital, Dr David Rosario, stressed the importance of dispelling misconceptions and myths surrounding organ donation. He pointed out that awareness and correct information are the first steps toward increasing the donor registry.
Transplant coordinator, Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru Zone, Padma, highlighted the pressing need for more public awareness programmes at grassroots levels. She said, “Organ donation is not just a medical process but an act of humanity. Every individual who pledges to donate becomes a beacon of hope for many families.”
The programme began with a warm welcome by dean, Institute of occupational therapy, Dr Florance Angelin. The proceedings were compered by Dr Rachana, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Pranjali Mhatre.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals, reflecting Srinivas University’s commitment to promoting social responsibility and healthcare awareness.
