Mangaluru, Jun 9: The second JMFC court here, through a verdict delivered recently, sentenced a driver to a year of imprisonment apart from imposing a fine of Rs 6000. The driver in question was found guilty of causing the death of a pedestrian in an accident which happened near Bykampady junction last year.
The driver who was handed down this sentence happens to be Kishore Maiya (39), from Kaup Uchila. The victim of the accident was Hari N Moolya alias Harish (53) from Katipalla.
When Harish was waiting to cross the highway at Bykampady junction on March 28, 2016, a car moving towards Udupi from the direction of the city had knocked him down. Harish, who suffered critical injuries, had died in a private hospital in the city. Sub-inspector of Suratkal traffic police station, Purushotham, had filed case against the driver, after which inspector, Manjunath T N, had filed charge sheet in the court.
Judge of the second JMFC court, Santosh Kunder, came to the conclusion that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the charge levelled against the car driver. Assistant public prosecutor, Chetan Nayak, had appeared in this case on behalf of the prosecution.
