UAE: Inspiring Konkani Poetry Session Brings Popular Poets Together at Safa Park

Dubai, Apr 11:  Kavita Trust in association with Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE, organized a Konkani poetry session here on the lush green lawns at the Safa Park, near Satwa, Dubai on April 11.

Welcoming the gathering, Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust said that over the years the Trust has been successful in creating a suitable enironment, wherein more people have started writing and reading Konkani poetry.  For the past 20 years almost 125 konkani poetry books in Kannada script have been published.  This speaks a lot about the poetry movement that is on, which was started by Zage Kavi group and now continued by the Kavita Trust.

He also said now the time has come to strengthen Konkani poetry in terms of literary value and take it to the national and international level.  He urged all the fellow poets to think seriously in this regard and accept criticism in a positive mindset.

The poetry session was conducted by Melvyn himself.  Robert Fernandes, PJ Karugalnade, Ashok Dias, Asha Fernandes, JJ Dias, Hubert Lasrado, Vincent Pinto, Jossy Bajjodi, Arthur Pereira, Averyl Rodrigues,  Lancy Noronha, Ramcy Fernandes and  Anton Mendonca recited their poems.

A large number of poetry enthusiasts and poets attended the event.

This is the 3rd in the series of poetry sessions Kavita Trust intends to hold during this year.  The first being held at the St Aloysius College, Mangalore in January and the second one was held on the top of Malekodi hill, Allipade near Bantwal.
