Mangalore, Apr 18: Indian parliament passed Land to Tillers Act, but no such Act was made to handover the home to occupants, said PB D'Sa, noted social activist and president of PUCL.

He was delivering the introductory remarks at the public meet convened to discuss and draw the attention of the authority concerned to the problems faced by land tenants in the district in particular and till Chennai at large at NGO Hall here on Friday April 18.

Eight per cent of people do not own houses. Religious institutions are dominating in this regard. Philanthropists have donated land to religious with genuine concern for serving society, but religious leaders have taken advantage of it to the maximum. They are making business and earning profits in the name of religion, he accused.

Advising tenants to unite for the cause, the social activist cautioned that it is about time to fight for the cause; otherwise the situation may go out of every one's hand, he cautioned.

Gowri Shankar, senior advocate, delivered the inaugural address. Shantharama Bhandary, senior advocate and others were present on the occasion.

The public meet was organized by the association of tenants.

It is the right time now to take up the issue of mulagheni tenancy. Elections are nearby , political parties and politicians should clarify the their stand on this issue. If legal and peaceful solution impossible, Naxal way could make it possible.!!!! United voice of tenants!

Whatever Mr. Prafulchand, Attavar is mentioning is very true. The Government has to take serious action to abolish Mulgeni rights. I have a small property in Valencia, Mangalore whereby the whole area of 16 acres owned by a Muldar who is dead and gone many years before and unauthorised persons claiming they have the right to give mulgeni rights are pestering on our door steps forcing to take mulgeni rights for an exorbitant price.

How could a person pay such a huge amount of money when you have lived in this place for so many years and not using for commercial purposes.

I assume this is with regard to Muligeni Tenancy or the perpetual lease lease holders This system is peculiar only to un devided Dakshina Kannada & Kasaragod disticts. The condition of obtaining permission for price from the Mulgar as far I knnow is of recent origin

This has tied the hands of the Mulgeni Tenants in as far as selling ,alleianating morgaging their property for wich they have paid market value at the time of registering the propert years ago.Now to demand a (unreasonable) share of sale value from the Mulgeni Tenants is unjust and illogical

If only the bonafide Mulgeni tenant had given a declaration in 1975 he would perahps escaped from this anomaly It is therefore hightime the Govt scrap this system of permission for a price before the sale of propery by the Bonafide Mulgeni tenant
