Panaji, Jul 1: BJP National President Amit Shah has hailed President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching GST in the Parliament last night, which he said would accelerate economic growth of the country.
Shah who arrived in Goa on his two day long tour gave his first reaction on this new tax claiming that "it has a strength to push the growth of the country, making it a global leader."
"The launching of GST has dissolved more than 17 different taxes converting them into a single tax which will help traders, businessmen and small entrepreneurs. BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi has helped them to get relief from Inspector Raj," Shah said addressing a gathering outside Goa airport today.
Shah is on two day visit to the State beginning from today during which he would be interacting with the coalition partners, professionals and those elected representatives who are affiliated to the party.
The BJP President said that there might be some teething problem with the implementation of GST which can be worked upon. "But this tax reform will accelerate the economic growth of the country making it as the global leader," he said.
"GST will fast pace the economic growth of the country and will end several tax related legislations," he said.
In his five minute speech, Shah said "the country has achieved a dream of one country, one tax under the leadership of President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"From the time, Modiji has taken over he has been introducing new things in each sector. But I would like to tell the country that what happened last night (GST) is the biggest tax reform step taken since the time of Independence," he commented.
This morning, Shah landed at Dabolim airport at around 11.30 a.m. during which he was given warm welcome by more than 2,500 party workers who were present there.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar, BJP’s National Joint General Secretary Santoshji, Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, South Goa member of parliament Narendra Sawaikar, State General Secretary Sadanand Tanavade, State Treasurer Sanjiv Desai were amongst the leaders who were at the airport to receive the party president.
The workers had began lining up at the airport from morning onwards anxiously waiting for the arrival of their leader.
Shah later drove down to Panaji where he laid wreath on Martyrs memorial at Azad Maidan.
