Udupi: Spectacular Five Chariots Mark Hanuman Jayanthi Celebrations

Udupi, Apr 21: 'Hanuman Jayanthi' in veneration of Hindu god Hanuman was organized here by Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana Seva Samithi at Car Street here on Sunday April 20 night amdist great fanfare, opulence and religious fervour with thousands of devotees thronging here to watch and take part in the festival.

'Five Chariots festival' was celebrated under the aegis of Paryaya Sri Puttige Sri Krishna Math. As part of the glittering function in one of the rarest and momentous occasions in the history of the Sri Krishna temple, throngs of devotees could be seen all over pulling as many as five chariots at a time.   

The five chariots included the 'Brahma ratha', 'Belli ratha', 'Garuda ratha', 'Chinnada ratha' and 'Vayu puja ratha' pulled on Car street simultaneously unlike before when only three chariots would be pulled by devotees on rare occasions such as 'Makara Sankranthi' festival.

Various programmes and cultural activities were also organized as part of the Hanuman Jyanthi festivities. Sri Sugunendra Theertha of Putthige Muth inaugurated the programme.
