Mangalore, Apr 21: A much-needed student health care centre will soon become a reality in SJEC campus, which now has more than 1,700 students, stated a press release.

Fr Francesco Saverio Bazzoffi of the Diocese of Florence due to whose efforts St Pio's Chapel came into being in the campus, has came forward to sponsor the health centre, to be called Bethania House.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza laid the foundation stone for this 20-bed health care centre with dispensary, nursing services and emergency laboratory on Saturday April 19, during the 35th anniversary of ordination of the donor, Fr Bazzoffi.

Also gracing the ceremony were the director Fr Valerian D'Souza, assistant director Fr Henry Mascarenhas, principal Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, dean Prof Jayakar Hegde, senior staff and students.

Blessing the foundation stone, the bishop expressed his happiness that the college is getting a vital facility for students.

M/s Peter & Paul Mascarenhas, who designed the chapel, are the architects of the centre. The construction works will be carried on by Lancy Mascarenhas. The place is expected to be ready by September 2008.
