Mangaluru, Jul 3: In a major haul, the city crime branch police (CCB) on Monday July 3 seized 10 kg of ganja and arrested three persons.

The arrested are Rameez Raaz (24), a resident of Naringana, Bantwal, Mohammed Haneef (31), a resident of Natekal, and Iqbal Haris (24), a resident of Belma.

On receiving information that ganja was being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh into Dakshina Kannada and being sold to people from a lodge in Falnir here, the CCB police raided the spot and arrested the trio.

The police seized 10 kg of ganja, three mobile phones, a digital weighing scale, small plastic packets used to fill ganja in, Rs 9,500 cash and a Honda Unicorn two-wheeler from the accused. The total value of the seized items including ganja has been estimated at Rs 3 lac.

During investigation, the police learnt that the accused had purchased the ganja from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh and had brought to Mangaluru, where they had taken a room on rent in a lodge at Falnir. The accused used to sell the ganja in little packets to college students and public.

Accused Rameez is an accused in a case of vandalism that took place in hotel at Todugoli cross under Konaje police limits in 2016. He was also arrested in a ganja peddling case and later granted bail.

Mohammed Haneef is an accused in a ganja peddling case registered in Mangaluru rural police station in 2016, while Iqbal is an accused in five cases, including kidnap and rape of a medical student in Konaje, assault in Mulky police station, assault on cops in Suratkal police station and assault on an undertrial named Ilyas in Mangaluru jail.

The accused as well as the seized items have been handed over to Mangluru north police for further investigation.

The police said that action will also be taken against those who bought drugs from the three accused.

The raid operation was conducted on the orders of police commissioner T R Suresh, and under the directions of DCPs Shantharaju and Hanumantharaya. The team was guided by ACP Valentine D'Souza, and led by CCB inspector Sunil Y Naik.

It couldn’t be easy as it looks but as the drugs would have been already floded through the city and only CCB now could bring a change by capturing all the traffikers out to the law and court. Finding the source/not lettling such drugs to enter or to be used mangalore can bring much diffrence to the problem we are facing. They should come up with new campign and programs aknewlodging the people of mangalore about the problems that they could face using such drugs.

Look at their faces, totally exhausted with ganja effect.

I remember during my childhood days guys coming to every house hold shouting batli, paper, karba etc. and they were making livelihood by sheer hard work. But in the present day, robbing cattle, supplying ganja and indulging in illegal activities to earn fast bucks and enjoy life.

There are all sort of activities taking place in the Falnir area after all the old houses have been demolished and apartments, shopping centers have come up. Even the railway station area there are all sort of illegal activities taking place. Highland, Bendorewell and Kankanndy areas nothing better. It would take some time to flush all the illegal activities in the above area, if the police make up their mind and are active.

Police know very well who are the ganja peddlers, I don't understand why they don't give them rigorous punishment rather letting them free to carry out further crime, all the three are offenders in the past that means police having hands in gloves with these criminals.

THESE CRIMINALS WERE BOOKED EARLIER ALSO AND GRANTED BAIL AND CONTINUING THE CRIMES WITHOUT ANY FEAR SHOWS THEY ARE BACKED BY POLITICIANS WHO ALWAYS READY WITH BAIL FOR THEM AND THEY GET THE SHARE OUT OF IT.

THOSE WHO GIVE BAIL SHOULD HOLD RESPONSIBLE IF THEY DO ANY CRIMES THEREAFTER.
NO PERSON SHOULD GIVE BAIL TO ANYBODY UNLESS HE KNOWS THE CRIMINAL.
WHY SO CALLED MLAS ( LAW MAKERS ) SILENT ON THESE SORT OF ISSUES ?
THIS SHOWS LAW MAKERS ARE NOT AT ALL INTERESTED IN WELL BEING OF THE SOCIETY BUT THEY WANT TO USE SOCIETY AS MERE VOTE BANK.

Please shoot them in the head once for all and finish the case. They will be out in a couple of days again planning something like this. People who don't learn from their past mistakes have no right to live, esp the ones like these who spoil the entire life of a kid during college days by making them slaves of drugs..

Bai saab this is not easy , like what u all think. Most of the biggest and famous college students in Mangalore are addicted to this drug. I think all colleges should fix cc cameras surrounding places . These drug peddlers always roam around college campuses and some of students are in this business. College management , police, know this is happening. There should be proper counselling for all students and Teachers also. and no bail to Drug peddlers.
