The victim whose name has been withheld, is a resident of Vishnumurthy nagar. According to the police this despicable act was committed when the child's mother had been to attend a meeting of a self help group (SHG) and her father had gone to purchase gutka.
In their absence their neigbhour Suresh (30), according to the complaint filed at the Malpe police station, on Tuesday April 22 allegedly went to the child's house and raped the unsuspecting child in her bedroom.
As the accused had threatened the child's life, the parents delayed lodging a police complaint. On Monday the victim was treated as an outpatient in the government district hospital at Ajjarkad. But as she complained of pain on Tuesday too, she was admitted as an inpatient at the government children's hospital at Udupi.
On the basis of the victim's parents' complaint and the medical report, Malpe police booked a case against the accused under section 376 of the IPC and arrested him.
