Jul 8: Amid claims of arbitrary charges at shops and restaurants post GST launch, finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday July 7 launched a new mobile app 'GST Rate Finder', to assist users in finding accurate rates for goods under the new tax regime.

The app rolled out by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), aims to ease business and help a citizen ascertain the correct GST rate, after Goods and Services Tax (GST) came into effect on July 1.

The app is currently available on Android and will soon be available on iOS platform. It can be downloaded on any smart phone and can work in offline mode, once downloaded.

"This app is a ready reckoner and is very handy for consumers, customers, traders etc. One can easily checkout the GST levied on different goods through this app," says CBEC chief Vanaja Sarna in a television interview.

Explaining the app, Sandeep Rawal, the CBEC officer who invented this application says that a user can determine GST rate for a good or a service by entering the name or chapter heading of the commodity or service in the search box. The search result will list all the goods and services containing the name which was typed in the search box. The user can scroll down the list of description and when any specific item on the list is clicked, a window will pop-up, containing all required details.

Apart from the 'GST Rates Finder' mobile app, users can also log on to Central Board of Excise and Customs website to know different rates of GST.

this App is a joke ..see some explanations given in it for some commodities .Govt has done the biggest blunder by not having a trail period with some companies before rolling GST .Now companies have to file GST on 10th , 15th and 20th of every month .. that is around 36 times a year plus end of year tax submittal overall given the no of companies registered all over india the website will crash on 10th 15 and 20th since everyone will be trying to upload the papers all over india to the same portal . without proper IT infrastructure its a disaster and easy money for CA's since common trader will find it difficult to file the returns .to add salt to injury govt is arranging training at Rs 7000 for 2 days to learn about GST .

Problem in OUR INDIA is for every tax rule the government introduce either most people try to avoid it or dodge it but when it comes to their benifit they either protest or blame government without understand they are part of government.

Off corse even in Noth America and Europe people avoid taxes but receive government oriented benifits.

Is this fare... some pay and do not...
