Udupi, Apr 26: Dr T S Raghuraman, has been appointed chief operating officer (CEO) and medical superintendent of Kasturba hospital, Manipal, stated a press release here on Friday April 25.
According to the release Raghuraman did his MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune university in 1970. He completed his MD with specialization in pediatrics from the same college in the year 1985. He has been a pediatrician from 1981 in the Indian Air Force and has worked in all the major hospitals of the Indian Air Force. He was the associate professor of pediatrics at AFMC Pune from July 1993 to February 2008.
During his tenure at AFMC, he served as consultant and associate professor of pediatrics at an 800-bed super specialty teaching hospital. He was promoted to the post of professor and head of pediatrics department at Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. He was responsible for conducting research in pediatrics and allied subjects and also organizing and delivering post graduate training in pediatrics. It is to his credit that the hospital was certified as baby friendly in 2001.
In December 2002 he moved to No 5 Air Force Hospital, Johrat, Assam as director and consultant of a 400-bed multi-specialty teaching hospital. He was responsible for organizing both inpatient and outpatient care for a population of 10,000 people. In October 2004 he was appointed as principal medical officer of Eastern Air Command, Shillong entrusted with delivery of health care in the air force units of seven states of north east. On January 1, 2006 he took over as commandant (director) and principal of Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore a 1000-bed tertiary care and teaching hospital.
Dr Raghuraman has been awarded 'Athi Vishist Seva' medal by the president in the year 2008 for his devotion and outstanding contribution in his 37 years of dedicated service. Dr Raghuraman has been involved in teaching at various levels and has special interest in problem-based learning. He will also have dual charge as professor of pediatrics at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Dr Raghuraman is married to Anusha and is blessed with a daughter Geetanjali.
