Mangalore, May 10: The parents of Mohammed Naeem, the 38-year old engineer from Gurukambla near Kaikamba here who was kidnapped in Afghanistan on April 22, have been living on hope that their child would return home soon.
They get calls from the Indian embassy at Kabul and the HEB American company every couple of days saying that Naeem is fine and he would return home soon, that last call being on Thursday.
Naeem’s father Sarang Mohammed Hussain told The Times of India that on Thursday the company officials had told that he was fine and would return within two days.
“I get calls like this every week and we are living on the hope that my son returns,” said Hussain. He said his wife, Chand Sultana, is always praying and hoping her son would be released unharmed. The only solace, the family is left with at this moment seems to be prayers.
Deputy Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said the Ministry of External Affairs is doing its mite for the safe release of Naeem, according to the communication he received a couple of days back. “He’s safe and that what the officials have told me,” Rao added.
Rao said that the ministry communication did not mention anything about any demand placed by Naeem’s kidnappers nor who his kidnappers were.
Naeem, 39, has worked in Afghanistan for about five years as an electrical engineer. He worked for an international hotel before joining HEB Logistics four months ago. He visited his parents in January and was to return on leave on June 25.
