Mangaluru, Aug 12: The sixth additional district and sessions court here has sentenced a person, who had posted pictures of himself in compromising positions with his lover in Facebook, to a year of rigorous imprisonment besides imposing fine of Rs 12,000. The youth reportedly was angry that the lady had betrayed him.
The accused who has been held guilty and imprisoned happens to be Kusumadhar (30) from Morangallu in Aletty, Sullia.
Kusumadhar, it is said, came closer to a girl from Sullia after he got introduced to her at a marriage function of a relative. It is said that Kusumadhar made her to believe that he operates a tea stall at Bengaluru airport. In course of time, both of them liked each other, exchanged cellphone numbers, and fell in love.
The lady, who works for a firm, used to stay in a rented accommodation. Kusumadhar had come from Bengaluru on April 14, 2013, with the specific purpose of meeting his lover. After visiting the lady at her rented house, the man stayed there overnight by claiming that he did not get ticket for the bus back to Bengaluru. He raped her that night and also recorded the same on his cellphone. After a few days, the lady grew suspicious about Kusumadhar, and upon making queries, found out that he in fact was working at a hotel at the airport. After coming to know this fact, she kept distance from him.
The youth got angry and demanded Rs 5 lac from the lady if she did not want her obscene video clips to be uploaded in Facebook. The girl overlooked his threat, at which the angry youth opened a Facebook account in the name, 'Morangal Son Patali' on June 17, 2013, and uploaded video clips of their sexual act. The relatives of the girl, who came to know about it, filed complaint in Subrahmanya police station.
The then Sullia police inspector, Sathish, conducted investigation in the case and filed charge sheet. Judge of the court, D T Purandar, who conducted detailed hearing, sentenced the accused to six months rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2,000 under section 292 (2A) of Indian Penal Code, and a year of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 under section 67 (A) of IT Act. In case of failure to pay fine, Kusumadhar has been ordered to undergo additional imprisonment.
The court also said that the distressed woman can approach district legal services authotiry for compensation. Judith O M Crasta had appeared on behalf of the prosecution in the case.
