Bengaluru, Aug 24: Senior KAS office K Mathai, who is known as very honest and upright government servant, has been going to his office by bicycle every day.

It is said that Mathai uses bicycle as he has not been given an official car yet.

Mathai works for ‘Sakala’ in city. He stays in Rajanukunte which is 30 kilometers away from his office. As he does not have an official car, he comes to the office by his bicycle. This has been going on for the past 9 months.

Many people believe that Mathai has been denied car intentionally. But some people, who know him well, say that he uses bicycle to make ‘Sakala’ popular. But no word has come from Mathai on this issue yet. He has hanged ‘Sakala’ board in front of the bicycle.

Recently Mathai had complained about an IAS officer. After that he was transferred to ‘Sakala’ as ‘punishment’. Mathai has faced such treatment many times in the past.

Mathai had unearthed scams of crores of rupees in the advertisement department of BBMP. He is known as an honest as well as an uncompromising person.

Hope CM Siddaramaiah is reading these news clippings. While accusing the BJP of vindictiveness what is his government doing to an officer? It reminds us of the adage "Pot calling the kettle black".

There is very little place for honesty/integrity/uprightness, in the Government service, as is evidenced in the case of Mr. Mathai, who has been transferred almost 25 times in the approximately 25 years of his working life, for taking a firm stand against corruption/dishonesty/inefficiency/cheating/looting of public funds.

That he is cycling almost 60 kms to & fro everyday, due to non-payment for his transport facility, is indeed a blot on Karnataka's conscience. Hope we do not allow such ill-treatment of our upright/honest Officials to take place, at least in future.

firstly ,,is he entitled for car or a vehicle.. as per norms ..if yes, then the govt should provide him the car.
I knew an australian boss of mine used to travel to office by cycle. He wanted to set an example of eco friendly travelling by not using motor cars which are based on carbon based fuel which does immense damage to the environment.
Maybe this gentlemen wants to set an e.g to encourage people not to use polluting motor cars ? Any ways these days taking a walk to office if its within 5 to 6 km range is much easier than getting stuck in the traffic endlessly.
Having said this ...I really appreciate and respect his honesty.

..Mathai sir..since there is byelection recently a Goa church magazine published a article in their Magazine which compared BJP rule to Nazis and called for their defeat (dont mix religion with politics, old say)..article said i quote “Freedom, democracy and secularism are more important than corruption. Corruption was better.”..since our state is Governed by Congress they boast of champions of secularism, you may have to compromise with your honesty.by the way, i couldnt understand their stand & who gave that gyan to the article writer..if country marred with corruption, citizens all kind of freedoms will vanish..

Officers should set an example by doing like what Mathai does. Cycling is good for health too. Let the other officers follow this system also.
