Mangaluru, Aug 31: In order to maintain law and order situation in the city in view of approaching Bakrid festival and holding of immersion processions connected with Vinayaka Chaturthi, police undertook route march through various roads of the city on Wednesday August 30.

The city police were accompanied by Rapid Action Force, Karnataka State Reserve Police, City Armed Reserve police and 'Vajra' police contingent in the march past. The vehicles left Nehru Maidan at the centre of the city and moved through Nellikai Road, car street, Kudroli, Lalbagh, Bijai, Kadri Kambla, KPT, Nanthur, Bikarnakatte, Maroli, Padil and Adyar before returning via Pumpwell, Kankanady, Morgan's Gate and Pandeshwar to Nehru Maidan.

Some instructions have been issued by the district administration, duly warning people against illegally slaughtering camels, cows etc and also unauhorized transportation on the occasion of Bakrid festival. No one is allowed to violate guidelines issued on these matters by the government, and the people who find incidents of law violation, unauthorized transportation of cattle etc cannot take law into their hands. They have to pass information to police officials concerned.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K G Jagadeesha, said that police will arrange for barricades at leading prayer centres and take other steps as necessary to streamline smooth movement of traffic. He asked tahsildars of the taluks to convene peace meetings if found necessary towards celebrating the festival in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

Idgah mosque president, Yenepoya Abdulla Kumhi, said that Eid Ul Azha will be performed at Idgah mosque at Bavutagudde at 8 am on September 1 under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district Qazi, Twaka Ahmed Musliyar. All facilities have been provided to the people to offer prayers. He has requested Muslim brethren to be present at 8 am for the prayers.
