Gonikoppal (Kodagu), Sep 3: In a world driven by money, people can sometimes be cruel where financial matters are concerned. A youth who was unable to pay back his loan had to face an instance of cruelty at the hands of his creditors here on Saturday September 2.

Harish, a coolie worker, was allegedly locked up in a kennel and literally 'fed' to dogs for not returning the money he had borrowed.

According to a complaint filed in Ponnalpete police station, Harish had taken a loan from his employer Kishan, owner of a plantation at Balele.

As Harish failed to pay back the money, the owner allegedly caught hold of him and demanded that he return the money immediately. Harish pleaded his employer to give him some time, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Kishan then allegedly took Harish to his house and locked him up in a kennel with his three dogs. The dogs bit him right and left, causing injuries on his hands, legs, back and head.

Seeing Harish scream in pain, Kishan released him, and after giving him alcohol to drink, left him in front of Gonikoppal health centre and fled, the complaint states.

Harish was given first aid at the health centre and then admitted to the health centre in Mysuru for further treatment.

The police have registered a case of caste abuse and atrocity against Kishan in Ponnalpete police station.

The police led by DySP Nagappa have taken up the investigation.

The district Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has condemned the incident and urged for strict action against the accused.
