Mangaluru, Sep 4: Three out of eight engineering students who went to swim in river Netravati on Monday, September 4 met watery graves. Five of them were rescued.

The incident took place at Nadugudde, Innoli near Konaje.

Vikhil (21) alias Vikki from Beltangady, Shubham (22), a native of Bihar, and Sri Ram (21) from Chitradurga were washed away by the currents.

As it was holiday on account of Onam, eight students of a private college planned to visit Shree Somanatheshwara Temple at Inoli. They took a boat near Adyar and reached near Nadugudde. Before going to the temple, they decided to bathe in the river. That is when tragedy struck.

Among the eight, it was Sri Ram who stepped into the water first. But he lost his balance and fell into the water. Vikkil who saw him struggle jumped in to rescue Sri Ram, but he too got washed away. Shubham then went to their rescue, but like the other two, met watery grave.

Five of them were saved by the locals.

Bodies of all the three students have been retrieved with the help of locals, police and fire personnel.

This is India, can happen anything at anytime.Being an Engineering students, they should have been role model for other students. But they taught younger generation other way around. But nature's call cannot be escaped by anyone.Always overconfidence costs.Very sorry incident.May departed souls rest in "SADGATHI" Om Shanthi.May God bless the other who have been saved for the speedy recovery.Ignorance, overconfidence and carelessness, ignorance costed them very badly.

Why do people venture into the rivers specially during this rainy season? The river flows through its full capacity and it's extremely dangerous for people to swim.
