Realtors Accused of Rs 2.5cr Fraud

Times of India

MARGAO, Jun 2: The Verna police on Saturday registered a case against a Mormugoa-based real estate agency for duping a Delhi based property broker of over Rs 2.5 crore.

New Delhi resident Gitanjali Khosla accused Prashant Borkar and Sydney D'Souza of Amber Real Estates and Properties of pocketing the commission due to her from the sale of a land at Loliem Canacona.

Investigating officer Jivba Dalvi told TOI that the complainants have given enough evidence to the police and the accused could be arrested any time. The deal, which involved 2,79,000 sq m of land at Loliem Canacona, had taken place between October 2006 and July 2007. The agreement was that the duo would pay Rs 90 per sq ft as commission. However, the duo later refused to pay up.

The police have registered an offense against the duo for entering into a criminal conspiracy with common intention of fraudulently duping the complainant of the commission due to her after the sale of land.

Superintendent of police, South, Shekhar Prabhudesai said that no arrests have been made so far and that the police are investigating into the complaint.

Sources said a number of land deals had taken place in Canacona in the last two years and many of them have been fraudulently registered. In some cases, the same plot had been sold to several buyers.
