Panaji, Jun 12: A Hindu organization has sought ban on the release of Hollywood flick "Love Guru’’, which according to them, portrays the guru-disciple relation in a nasty way.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, an NGO, which has been running campaign against painter M F Hussain for portraying Hindu gods and godesses in vulgar manner, has taken up cudgel against the Hollywood movie, which is slated to be released on June 20.
“We are surprised and shocked, as the movie 'Love Guru,' which is likely to release in India is deadly against the Hindu culture, moral and ethics which are required to be preserved and particularly the relation between guru and disciple,” the organization in its letter to Censor board of film certification, Mumbai, has mentioned.
The organization has also given letter to Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat seeking to stop the movie release, which will hurt the sentiments.
“The sanctity of Guru-Disciple tradition is reflected in Lord Jesus and his disciples, Lord Krishna and Arjun, Lord Buddha and his disciples and others,” Shivaji Vatkar, convenor, who has signed the letter along with other members, stated.
He said that the trailer released by Paramount Pictures shows utter disrespect of the deep spiritual significance and relations of the Guru. “It shows the Guru in a very cheap and funny character which encourages audience miserable laugh at the Guru,” Vatkar said.
The letter also notes that in the trailer it is also mentioned that this is the second best Guru in India. “India has reered saints such as Swami Vivekanand, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Yogi Arvind and others. This film will denigrate these saints and Gurus,” he says.
The organization feared that the movie will create wrong impression about Indian culture on the viewers and will hurt religious sentiments which is not only the offence under the provisions of Indian Penal Code but create the law and order problem.
“Besides, violence cannot be ruled out for such sinful act, notwithstanding any caste, creed or religion,” he added.
The organization has said that the permission should not be granted to release such film, at least in India, as it will hurt religious sentiments of millions of Indians and among those who follow Guru-disciple principle.
