Udupi, Oct 25:  An accident which happened at Katapadi Moodabettu in the taluk on the evening of Tuesday October 24 on national highway 66 snuffed out the life of a youth who was riding a two-wheeler. The deceased was Harishchandra Suvarna (32), a native of Moodabettu.

Suvarna was going home from Kaup to his home at Katapadi Moodabettu when tragedy struck. As soon as he turned his two-wheeler towards the divider to reach his home, a car that was following him dashed against his vehicle, giving rise to this accident.

Harishchandra Suvarna suffered grave injuries in this collision. The locals took him to a hospital in the town by 108 ambulance service. From there, he was referred to KMC Hospital Manipal where he breathed his last, police sources  explained.

Two-wheeler riders trying to ride over the divider to reach the other side of the road is a common sight in this part of national highway. They try to avoid the need to travel for a few kilometres ahead to the nearest diversion and take a U-turn from there to reach their destinations. Many a time accidents happen as the vehicles approaching this point many a time are unable to see the vehicles reaching the other side from over the dividers. Police personnel said that unless people stop the practice of crossing the dividers in this  fashion, these kinds of accidents are bound to happen.
