Mangalore: Padmapriya Death: Atul Complains of Chest Pain, in Hospital

Mangalore, Jun 21: Atul Rao, who was identified as the prime witness in the senstional case of Padmapriya's death by the police, had been freed on Thursday, June 19. He got admitted to A J Hospital here on Friday, June 20, complaining of chest pain. He has been kept in the intensive care unit(ICU) of the hospital.
Medical Director of the hospital Prashant Marla said that Atul, who is under the care of Dr Nagaraj Shetty, has shown improvement. Various tests are going on and we cannot say how long the tests will continue, he added.
In the meantime, Udupi district superintendent of police(SP) Devajyoti Ray has said that priliminary investigation has been initiated relating to the three cases registered in connection with the mysterious disappeara ance and subsequent death of Padmapriya. The investigation is being carried out by combining all cases like finding of the car at Shirva, disappearance case lodged in Manipal station, suicide case at Delhi and a case of abduction and other offences, lodged at Manipal police station by MLA Raghupathi Bhat. The complaint filed by Bhat now has not been registered, as the case is being investigated from all angles, he clarified.
We are yet to receive the report of the Delhi police about the interrogations conducted by them relating to Padmapriya's death. Even the post mortem report is awaited, he stated. Questioned about Atul Rao, he said the police do not have any information about him as of now. He had been with us as an informant and we have not contacted him after he was sent home on Thursday, June 19, he explained. Both the SP and Manipal police station inspector B G Achar said, that Atul would be summoned for inquiry if necessary, only after receipt of the report from Delhi police and the post mortem report. Achar also said that records are being pooled from Goa, Bangalore etc., relating to the case.
The public have grown curious about the fact that Atul complained of chest pain after he was released. It has also been noted that no security staff were deployed outside the ICU where Atul has been admitted.
