Panaji: Court Issues Notice to Fiona Mackeown

Panaji, Jun 21: While she is awaiting clearance of her passport to visit India, State police have issued notice to Fiona Mackeown indicating that she would be summoned for the court case related to her deceased daughter.

Fiona, mother of Scarlett Eden Keeling, will be summoned by President of Goa Children’s Court to appear in the case regarding death of her daughter on Anjuna beach on February 18.

State police has issued notice to Fiona under section 173 (2) (II) of CRPC which refers to her complaint about murder of her daughter.

Scarlett, a British teenager, was drugged, raped and left to die on Goa's popular beach.

Goa police during the investigation have arrested two for their alleged involvement in the offence. Placido Carvalho and Samson D’Souza, who are booked as accused in the case, were seen with the girl during the last few hours of her survival.

Fiona had registered a case of murder on March 8, 2008 after the second autopsy recommended that the death be investigated as a murder.

State police who have handed over the case to central bureau of investigation has already chargesheeted it in the Children’s court on May 31, 2008.

Fiona, who was served notice to her Indian lawyer Vikram Varma, has applied for the visa and still awaiting the node of Indian High commission.

“How can she appear before the court if she is not granted visa till date,” questioned her lawyer Vikram Varma.

He said that he would move before the court seeking more time for her appearance as she is yet to get her visa.
