Turkey detains 101 suspected IS militants in Ankara

Ankara, Nov 9 (IANS): The Turkish police on Thursday detained 101 suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in the capital Ankara.

The counter terror operation was carried out by the Ankara Public Prosecutor's office with 1,500 policemen, and detention warrants for 245 suspects were issued, according to the local media.

The police reportedly carried out raids at 240 different addresses in Ankara and confiscated digital and other material belonging to the IS group, reports Xinhua news agency.

Between October 22 and November 1, the police launched anti-IS operations in 25 provinces across Turkey detaining 283 IS militants and seizing 66 improvised explosive devices including some other weapons.

Since 2015, Turkey has suffered several deadly attacks that killed more than 300 people and the government accuses the IS of being the main plotter.

According to the Turkish Justice Ministry, at least 780 people, including 350 foreigners, remain in detention, some of whom have been convicted, for suspected links to the IS group.
