Mangalore, Jun 30: An opportunity is coming by for the people without financial background and those interested in self development skills, to acquire the skills needed. The city-based St Aloysius College has come up with two eight-week certificate courses,one each in finance for non-finance people and self development. The certificate in finance course is set to commence on Monday July 14 while the self development course will start the next day, July 15.
In a press release, the college said it has taken this initiative in view of the fact that finance has emerged as a very important aspect of life of late. The course will have subjects like understanding accounting statements, concepts of time value of money, cost of capital, working capital management, taking decision on capital expenditures, budgetting and costing techniques. The teaching methods will involve lectures, presentations and solving of a few cases. C A Lionel Aranha, visiting faculty from the Indian Institute of Management Kohikode and Indore, and chartered accountant C A Naveen will be the resource persons for this course.
The self development course will contain topics like self awareness, goal setting, motivation, stress management, verbal, non-verbal and written communications, public speaking and presentation skills, group discussions and interviews, leadership, team building as well as time management.
The classes will be held twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays for finance certificate courses and Tuesdays and Fridays for the self development course aspirants,between 6 pm and 8 pm at the St Aloysius College premises on Light House hill in the city.
