Panaji: ‘Semana de Cultura Portuguesa’ to be Held in November

Panaji, Jul 24:
A week-long festival celebrating the bonds between Portugal and Goa, an erstwhile Portugese colony, will be organized in November said Dr Paulo Neves Pocinho, Portugal consul general in Goa, and convenor of the festival.

‘The festival is aimed at promoting friendship and creativity allowing it to blossom in a spirit of freedom and inter cultural dialogue,’ he said. The festival is being organized by the Consulate General of Portugal in collaboration with ‘Fundacao Oriente’, ‘Instituto Camoes’, ‘Fundacao Cidade de Lisboa’, ‘Clube Nacional’, ‘Clube Vasco da Gama’, ‘Clube Hoarmonia’ and Indo-Portuguese Friendship Society-Goa.
 
Termed ‘Semana de Cultura Portuguesa’, the festival will be held from November 7 to November 15, informed Pocinho. The cultural week will commence with a Portuguese cuisine workshop for housewives and chefs by chef Carlos Alberto Monteiro, he stated.
 
It will also house an exhibition by internationally famed Goa-based cartoonist Mario Miranda, and an exhibition of ‘Azulejos’, which are Portuguese ceramic tiles. The organizers have also planned a musical evening featuring Pimba singer Nadia.
 
He said that a documentary on ‘Art of Amalia’ in collaboration with Kala Academy will conclude this week.
