Govt treating Indian migrant workers as 2nd class citizens: Rahul on changes in passport

New Delhi, Jan 14 (TNN): Congress president Rahul Gandhi today accused BJP of harbouring a "discriminatory mindest" and treating the Indian migrant workers as "second class citizen" following the government's decision to introduce changes in the Indian passport.

"Treating India's migrant workers like second class citizens is completely unacceptable. This action demonstrates BJP's discriminatory mindset", he said in a tweet.

The ministry had also announced that the last page of the passport, which, so far, contained the father or legal guardian's name, the names of the holder's mother, spouse and their address, will be kept blank, giving rise to speculations that the passport may no longer serve as a valid address proof.

The changes were announced after recommendation of a three-member panel, comprising officials from the ministry of external affairs and the ministry of women and child development.

I do not understand what type of logic/mentality to remove last page details and saffron color passport for low profile (ECR).
First of all almost all countries and especially GCC required the last page details to issue visa for blood relatives especially mother father & spouse and even during immigration process.
Secondly immigration dept itself will discriminate passport between ECR and ECNR and last but not the least foreign country sponsor themselves will degrade the people (low profile) who is having saffron passports (ECR)

Rahul donot simply blame for political milage. just ask what is the reason for changes. they might have some reason. And who told you Indian migrant workers as "second class citizen". It is based on ECR/ECNR. for your kind information at present also there is segregation, check your passport. You probably didn't listen to your adviser or you might have forgotton what he said. Moreover you should understand it is comitee recomdation.

However some matured political leaders should clarify with government if orange passport eligible for ECNR (reason of person staying abroad more than three years, presently they put DELETED stamp) then how it will work whether they will issue new passport or ????. And for relation proof hereafter additional document need to carry?

The central government wants address and other information on passport to be left blank which will be useful at the time of crisis. This is another ploy by this BJP government for implementing aadhar as sole identity card where as aadhar is not identity proof for ongoing updating of National Register of Citizens in Assam, India. Double standard of Modi government.

what is the benefit of removing the parent & spouse details from the passport.
on the other hand, immigrants will have very difficult time in getting the visa for blood relatives & spouse.
Better change the livelihood of common man don't waster your time and energy on this kind of work. this will effect the NRI's when they apply for RELATIVE VISAS.
