Mumbai, Jul 29: Marathi film, Jinki Re Jinki!, which depicts an emotional bond between a boy and his teacher -- who cultivates in him the liking for schooling -- has been selected by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) for their teacher's training Initiative.

Directed by Rishi Deshpande, Jinki Re Jinki! is based on a biography by Bhau Gavande named Prakashachya Umberthyavar. The film has been co-produced by Deshpande as well as Vikrant Patil.

Bhau Gavande had written about his schooling days in his village, and being bullied by teachers. One day, a caring teacher came into his life, and inculcated in him a liking for art and creativity. Most importantly, he turned students towards school, who were running away fearing the wrath of other teachers.

Gavande put down all this experiences as a child in his novel. "Even today, the situation in rural areas has not changed much. When we came across this story, both of us decided to bring it out on big screen hoping it could bring some positive change in teachers' attitude," said Rishi.

The film has won its share of awards in international film festivals as well. Child artist Devashish Paranjpe, who played the protagonist Bhaurao in this film, won the Best Actor award in Asian Panorama section of the Golden Elephant International Film Festival 2007.

Now, the makers are proud to be UNESCO's 'chosen one' as well.

According to Rishi, UNESCO will be developing a teacher's training kit based on the film. Both will be used as a tool to focus on the psycho-pedagogical aspects of teaching. By this, the teachers will seek learners from the community and create a learner friendly school environment.

The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, government of India has also shown keen interest in UNESCO's proposal.
