Mangaluru, Feb 12: After a huge blast went off on Sunday February 11 afternoon inside a house at Suralpady near Gurpur Kaikamba in the taluk, the first floor of the building suffered heavy damage. As no one was inside at the time of the blast, no injuries or loss of life occurred.

The house where the incident happened belongs to Gulzar Banu. This house is located opposite Raj Academy School at Suralpady. Furniture items were destroyed in the blast and extensive damage was inflicted on the first floor of the building. As the family members were away attending a function at Kundapur, they escaped facing danger from the accident.

As the sound of the blast was heard far and wide, people came running in front of the house. People have been asked not to approach near the house. The police are scrutinizing the area. As per one account, this blast has caused loss running into several lacs of rupees.

The family members later said that they had forgotten to switch off the air-conditioner when leaving and as such, due to high pressure, the compressor of the air-condition exploded. Initially it was believed that crackers stored in the first floor had caught fire, but the police dismissed this theory.

A local named Younis Khan filed a complained at Bajpe police station about the blast, based on which investigation is continuing.

I have not heard of AC units “ exploding “ if used continuously. This seems to be a woven story than truth . They seem to hide something !!

Cooked up story. AC units can start a fire or a small explosion but not a blast on this scale. NIA must investigate.
