Bangalore, Aug 9: Justice Paul Daniel Dinakaran Premkumar took oath as the 25th Chief Justice of the High Court on Friday August 8. He had served as a senior judge of Chennai High Court before being transferred here. He began his practice as a lawyer in the year 1976 at Chennai and was later appointed as the central government counsel.
Speaking after taking part in the felicitation organized in his honour by Karnataka State Bar Council in the court hall of the Chief Justice of the High Court, he declared that he has decided to drop disciplinary proceedings proposed against more than 200 officials working in subordinate courts.
"This is the first decision I have taken, after assuming charge as the High Court Chief Justice. This decision has been taken with the concurrence of other judges of the High Court, considering that these cases lacked in substance," he explained.
Legal service should be accessible to everyone including the last person in the country, he argued. Law should never be confined to books but should reach every one and every citizen has to follow the laws, he opined.
He asked the legal fraternity to be committed to honesty and function in a transparent manner. To ensure this, one needs the cooperation of all the judges and lawyers. "Society is like a building and we have to ensure that rule of law prevails so that the building remains intact. We are like architects who ensure the safety of the building," he noted.
