M'lore: Independence Day Celebrations - Palemar Announces Comprehensive Development Plan for City

Mangalore, Aug 15: Modernization of municipal markets at Bejai, Derebail, Urva, Suratkal, and the central market, building of commercial complexes, multi-level car parking complex in Hampankatta, as well as a full-fledged bus terminus at Pumpwell, are the projects on the anvil, said Krishna Palemar, district-in-charge minister, in his Independence Day speech on Friday, August 15.
Palemar remarked that the BJP had started a new era in south India by forming the government in the state and reiterated the party's commitment to development. He said that it was the responsibility of every citizen to fight against terrorism to save the integrity and sovereignty of the nation, irrespective of caste and creed.
The development of seven important cities of the state, including Mangalore, at a cost of Rs 700 crore, building Suvarna Karnataka Development Corridor between Mangalore and Chitradurga through Udupi, forming of Coastal Development Authority for the integral development of the coastal area, an information and bio-technology hub for Mangalore, houses for 2,500 fishermen, withdrawing Value Added Tax (VAT) on ice plants, hiking quota of sales tax-free diesel supplied to fishermen, developing fisheries, and roads, will be carried out shortly, added Palemar.
He also informed that work on the vented dam across Netravati River near Tumbe, in Bantwal, will be started immediately after the monsoon, to address the issue of drinking water shortage in the city. K S Rao road, Light House Hill road, Bunts Hostel-Jyothi road, U P Mallya road, Kulur - Kavoor road, Bejai - Circuit House road, Bejai - Kuntikan road, and Suratkal – Katipalla – Krishnapur, will be converted into four lanes and concreted soon, assured Palemar.
Earlier, he received the guard of honour from the police, home guards, fire brigade, NCC, scouts, and guides. A colourful marchpast was held on the occasion. Although the city has been experiencing heavy downpour over the past few days, therew as pleasant relief from the rains during the Independence Day celebrations.
MLA Yogish Bhat, Western Range IGP A M Prasad, deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao, SP Satheeshkumar, and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
