Moodbidri, May 2: A dentist based in the town, who was attacked by a relative of his assistant, suffered injuries and had to be admitted into a hospital for treatment.The incident happened on the evening of Tuesday May 1.

Dr Roshan (37), practicing dentistry in the town was attacked by a person named Shakir. It is reported that Shakir hit the forehead of the dentist duly wearing punch in his hand. Dr Roshan, who operates his clinic near the market here, had recently appointed a female assistant belonging to a religion that is different from his own, at the instance of the lady's parents.

Shakir, who happens to be the lady assistant's elder sister's husband, had objected to the lady attending to her job in normal dress without covering herself as per religious tenets. He had raised objection repeatedly as a result of which the lady was forced to leave her job. However, she had again joined for work with the same dentist recently with support from her parents.

Shakir continued to object to her dress sense and warned her not to go for work. As she ignored his warning, it is said, he directly went to her place of work and attacked her. When the dentist objected to his behaviour, it is said, he also hit him hard, necessitating his hospitalization.
