Namaz should be read in mosques, not on roads: Haryana CM on Gurugram incident

Chandigarh, May 6 (Zee News): Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that Namaz should be read in mosques and Idgahs and not in public spaces. Responding to questions on increase in number of incidents of disrupting Namaz in Gurgaon, Khattar said that it was the duty of the state to maintain law and order.

“It is our duty to maintain law and order. There has been an increase in offering Namaz in open. Namaz should be read in Mosques or Idgahs rather than public spaces,” said Khattar.

The statement by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader came just days after some right-wing organisations disrupted Friday Namaz at several places in Gurugram in Haryana. However, police presence at the spots prevented any violence from taking place.

Hindutva organisations have been trying to stop Friday prayers in Gurgaon over the last two weeks alleging that some people were trying to grab land in a bid to merge it with a mosque. There were disruptions to namaz at Wazirabad, Atul Kataria Chowk, Cyber Park, Bakhtawar Chowk and at South City, on Friday last.

Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Kranti Dal, Gau Rakshak Dal and Shiv Sena arrived at the spots where people had assembled to offer Friday prayers.

Ritu Raj, a member of a Hindutva organisation, claimed that they organised a havan at Wazirabad to stop the Namaz.

They allegedly shouted slogans like Jai Shri Ram and Radhe Radhe to disrupt the Namaz.

India is a secular country. So all the laws should be equal to every religion whether this is for once in a week or once in a year . But in India this is happening just because to create the hatred amongst each other because of few people who think India is Hindu country or for the sake of vote. Nobody are allowed to create disturbance in prayer of any religion because this is very sensitive issue.

Freedom of religion includes freedom of practice, so long as the practice does not openly encroach on the legitimate rights of others. If people congregate in large numbers, they should have a police permit so that the practice is orderly and does not disrupt regular lawful activities. In this case, if the namaz was held in places where there is no disruption, there should have been no objection whatever.

Agreed. This is what happening in Europe and American Continent. Prayer creating lot of inconvenience everyday to the public as muslims pray anywhere & everywhere. One dont need to showoff that you are praying. Pray silently in your mind if you are away from home/mosque without creating problems to the other person which impresses everyone.

These festivities are once in a year affair. We can allow it in the context of tolerance and respect to faith. Blocking roads and public places on all fridays during peak hours cannot be justified in this context.

These friday prayers. like the havans conducted were not started today for obstructing anyone. I agree that no prayers or festivities should block anyone. Lets make it a point now onwards no festival and prayers to be celebrated on roads of any community. Even political processions and morchas should be banned. This should be a law. Life will be very peaceful for the common man than.

Can any NGO or organization get this law made through the supremem court like how the law on the foriegn financing of parties was done.

If the rule of law is same for all religions according to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar than next year onwards all Ganesh Pandal should be inside the temple premises. Since Diwali is festival of lights no firecrackers busted on the roads which only left shreds of papers and plastics polluting to the environment.
As far as dispute offering a Friday prayers is just two week old. As per the locals they are being offering prayers for generation on this piece of land. As the worshippers are grew they don't have adequate space to accommodate everyone.
But I am against the traffic obstruction especially emergency services.
Like many other places of East Punjab, the Muslims of Sonipat migrated to Pakistan, leaving behind their homes and places of worship. These were quickly claimed by the incoming Hindus and Sikhs. Muslims were often the second largest group in these areas. For example, Muslims were significantly present in cities like Hissar (28%), Gurgaon (34%), Karnal (32%) and Ambala (32%) Rohtak (17%); all of these are part of present-day Haryana State. Most of the Muslims abandoned their homes in the ensuing violence of August 1947 and fled to Pakistan. Similarly, in Pakistan, many of the old abandoned religious buildings were converted/neglected by the incoming populations to be utilised for their own purposes.
In this case, the masjid has been converted into a Durga Mandir, a temple for worshiping Goddess Durga. It is now known as ‘Sri Sanatan Dharm Sabha Panji Durga Mandir.’ The Goddess Durga assumes the central position in the mandir and is surrounded by other deities; outside in the courtyard is an encased idol of Baba Sai.
Sonipat in August 1947 was a small city in united Punjab, then it became a city in East Punjab and eventually a part of Haryana after the reorganisation of East Punjab in 1966. There is little in the history books about the intervening years before it became part of Haryana, yet a lot has changed in this area.

You can offer your prayers at home nobody can stop you from doing that. Roads are meant for vehicles. adding places of worship year after year will reduce the physical spaces available. You cannot add one square inch on this planet, allready physical spaces are shrinking by day. time has come to offer prayers at the quitness of ones home. Government should bring a Law on this.

This law should be made should equally be applicable to Hindus also. Roads are for vehicular movement. If the population is kept at an even level there will be spaces for all. but if population increases, tommorrow where else. Stop ghettoisation of neighbourhoods. when physical spaces are dwindling making each ones life miserable, do not demand places of worship. they will eat spaces. Hope you know your math. problem of exponential growth.
