Mangalore: Release of Jeevan Kiran D'Souza may be Delayed

Mangalore, Sep 9: Although the employers of Jeevan Kiran D'Souza (28) from Chevar Kondlakkad near Kasargod here, working in a ship that was captured by pirates on August 21 off Somalia Coast, had promised to secure release of all the employees of the captured ship, their promise has not materialized so far.
It is learnt that Wilson D'Souza, elder brother of Jeevan, called his brother from Kuwait on Sunday September 7 and could speak for only two minutes. Jeevan is said to have informed his brother that he is facing problems and that the seamen in captivity are not aware as to whether any negotiations are going on or not. Wilson passed on this information to the family members. Jeevan's voice was filled with apprehension, he reportedly said.
The ship owners and contractors are in dialogue with the pirates. However, the family members are worried, as it has been nearly 20 days since the ship was overpowered. Kasargod MLA C T Ahmedali visited the family on Sunday September 7 and called up the minister of state for foreign affairs Ahmed over phone and got the assurance that efforts are being made to secure Jeevan's release.
Meanwhile, Goan MP Shantaram Naik is understood to have received information that a Goan sailor from Navelim named Anthony Clive Thimudo, who was also on board the above hijacked ship, was safe. In a statement issued at Panaji on Monday September 8, Naik said that this information was made available to him by the union ministry of shipping, road transport and highways secretary A P V N Sharma. He was also told that the negotiations between the ship owners and the pirates were on and that the persons on board the ship are safe.
