Mangalore, Sep 12: In all likelihood, a new train service between Mangalore and Mysore will get a nod in the next railway budget.
General manager of South-western Railway Pravin Kumar conducted preliminary survey of this route on Thursday September 11. The senior railway officials, who accompanied Kumar, surveyed the railway line between Hassan and Subrahmanya. They have indicated that the train will during early stages, be run between Mysore and Subrahmanya. Thereafter, depending upon the passenger preference, the train may be extended to Mangalore, they said.
At the same time, there are chances of the present Mangalore-Bangalore train that moves via Mysore, being re-routed via Hassan-Arasikere and Tukmur to Bangalore. Once the train starts to run on this route, the trains can cover the distance between Mangalore and Bangalore within six hours instead of the present 12 hours, they say.
Divisional railway manager Vijayaraghava accompanied Pravin Kumar during the survey.
