Panaji, Sep 16: In the wake of increasing terrorism activities across the country, the state today decided to have its own Special Cell, which will collect and act on the intelligence inputs on terrorism in the state.
"The rate at which incidents have taken place, we are not ready to take any chance," State Chief Minister Digamber Kamat told reporters after chairing the high profile security review meeting this evening at his official residence.
The special cell sleuths from Delhi police will be training state police cell, which will be termed as special cell, the chief minister added.
The marathon meeting which began this evening was attended by state home minister Ravi Naik, Chief Secretary J P Singh, Director General of Police B S Brar, superintendents of police and district magistrates.
State's DGP said that the Delhi police have been requested to give on job training to the state police personnel, who will be handpicked for the job.
The state which is having high concentration of tourism activity has also decided to augment its bomb disposal squad. "We will be updating it with more modern equipments. Rather than having an additional bomb disposal squad, we will be modernizing the existing squad," Brar said.
The chief minister said that the state has requested the union home ministry to hold back the two companies of central reserve police force (CRPF) which were stationed here during Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
"They were sent back today but I requested the union home minister to send them back as we want them in the wake of ensuing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and New Year celebrations… The Home minister has agreed for my request," Kamat said.
He stated that both the companies would be retained in the state till January, next year.
The meeting today decided to intensify the night patrolling in the state. "I appeal the people of the state and also tourists to cooperate with the police in case they are checking the vehicles as it is required for the security of the state," the chief minister said.
The police have also identified various places, which are usually crowded with the tourists, and can be kept on the vigilance radar. The chief minister said that there is no Goa specific threat, but the precautions are taken as all the states are asked to be on alert.
