Panaji, Jun 6 (TOI): Health minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said that the BJP-led state government was ‘apologetic’ about the marathon 22-hour power shutdown in Tiswadi on Sunday, and said that it will ensure that such a situation never recurs. The state’s premier health institution, the Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital, Bambolim, also bore the brunt of the power cut.
“The chief minister is in constant touch with all ministers,” Rane said. “I have spoken to him at least seven or eight times since his departure to the US for treatment. He is getting regular updates (about the state). This situation will not occur again.”
Bharatiya Janata Party state general secretary Sadanand Tanavade was asked if the party would seek a report on whether the shifting of a high tension wire for a building complex at Kadamba plateau was the cause of the unprecedented power failure. “Power minister Pandurang Madkaikar already cleared everything yesterday,” he said. “He has apologised. This will not happen again. The party does not necessarily know everything that happens in the department. The chief minister himself has said that he is monitoring the situation.”
